Excavation is underway for The Moon 27, a nine-story mixed-use building at 42-38 27th Street in Long Island City, Queens. Designed by Michael Kang Architect and developed by Hang Dong Zhang, the 50,706-square-foot structure will yield 56 residential units with an average scope of 685 square feet, as well as 12,334 square feet of commercial space, a cellar level, and a 30-foot-long rear yard. Pittsburgh-based singer-songwriter Merce Lemon has a new album, Watch Me Drive Them Dogs Wild, out in September, and ahead of that she has a few shows lined up this summer. She stopped in Brooklyn for a show at Elsewhere Zone One on Sunday, where her set included her lovely recent singles “Will You Do Me a Kindness” and “Backyard Lover,” and a beautiful cover of Bonnie “Prince” Billy’s “I See a Darkness.” Her earnest folk gets some noisy roughened edges from the riffs that guitarist Reid Magette was ripping throughout, and it makes for a great combination.
