HARLINGEN, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — Valley counties have entered disaster declarations following the threat of severe weather this weekend.
According to Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino Jr., the disaster declaration for the county went into effect July 3.
“Hurricane Beryl poses a threat of imminent disaster, including widespread and severe property damage, injury and loss of life due to widespread flooding, life-threatening storm surge, damaging wind, and heavy rainfall,” Trevino’s declaration read.
Residents in Cameron County are encouraged to take the necessary precautions to remain safe.
The disaster declaration will be in effect for seven days after its issuance.
In Hidalgo County, Judge Richard Cortez issued a local state of disaster declaration in anticipation of the storm on Friday.
“The County of Hidalgo, Texas is facing significant threats of life, health and property due to the impending impact of Hurricane Beryl posing a threat of imminent disaster, including widespread and severe property damage, injury and widespread flooding, damaging wind and heavy rainfall,” Judge Cortez’s letter to Governor Greg Abbott read on Friday.
A release from Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick listed the following 40 counties as also entering declarations of disaster.
