A Moore County-based homebuilder has invested in a prime piece of real estate in the growing county.<\p> An LLC tied to Southern Pines-based Ascot Corporation purchased around 30 acres in Aberdeen off the intersection of U.S. 15-501 and Pee Dee Road for $1.3 million late last month, according to Moore County deed records. The land is zoned for residential use, according to Moore County tax records.<\p>

Man accused of trying to steal from former employer
A man is accused of trying to steal a number of items from his former employer in the Liberty area, the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office said. A worker at the Julian Airport Road business told investigators on Friday, Aug. 23, that he saw Nicholas Anthony Berry, 30, driving the company’s work ATV to another building on-site and followed him there, then went into the building and found Berry holding about 500 pounds of copper, the sheriff’s office said. Berry then dropped the copper, went outside and went to the ATV, but the worker had blocked the ATV and taken the key.
