Arrest Man Following Drugs Found at Samarcand Training Academy
An arrest was made by the Moore County Sheriff's Office after methamphetamine was found on the Samarcand Training Academy campus Tuesday. Richard Derrick Smith, 45, of Seven Lakes, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia and was committed to the Moore County Detention Center under a $7,500 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in Moore County District Court on Aug. 8.

After setback, Pfizer sees positive results for gene therapy program
After months of mixed results with its gene therapy efforts, Pfizer has reported positive results from a late-stage study for one of its candidates. Pfizer (NYSE: PFE) on Wednesday announced that a Phase 3 study evaluating its gene therapy targeting the bleeding disorder hemophilia A has achieved its primary objective. This follows the company earlier this year receiving its U.S. approval in gene therapy, an area of medicine where the company has invested heavily in North Carolina in recent years.

Lightning strike at Sanford Golf Course puts nearly half the carts out of commission
SANFORD, N.C. (WNCN) — Nearly half of the golf carts at Sanford Municipal Golf Course are temporarily out of commission due to a lightning event Sunday evening. According to the city, the course is currently operating with 26 of its 51 golf carts. As a result, those with late-morning tee times will likely not have access to a cart.
