Historical Association Dedicates the Kenneth Black Cemetery
The Moore County Historical Association hosted a dedication of the Kenneth Black Cemetery, in Southern Pines, on Saturday, July 20, at 10 a.m. The date coincided with the 243rd anniversary of the Loyalist’s death during the American Revolutionary War. Members of the Black family, and local officials, including former Mayor Carol Haney and Southern Pines Mayor Taylor Clement, attended. Historian Andrew Diemer presented a short lecture on the Tory War of 1781, and descendant children of Kenneth Black laid a wreath at his grave, pictured below. A bagpiper performed at the ceremony, in addition to the firing of a traditional musket.
