Good defense and a couple of big plays helped the Bishop McGuinness varsity football team defeat visiting Northwest Piedmont 1-A conference rival Carver 14-6 on Monday night. The game was originally scheduled for Friday night but was moved to Monday due to expected heavy wind and rain from the remnants of Hurricane Helene.

“I thought our defense played well and they made some big plays,” Villains Head Coach Mark Holcomb said. “Offensively, we were our own worst enemy. We had offsides and false starts. One drive it was first down on their 40-yard line. We hadn’t snapped it yet, and it was first and 20. We had a turnover on their two-yard line at the end of the first quarter. But I am happy to be 4-1. I am not going to complain about it. With us not playing on Friday obviously you have to change your routine, but I just told them after the game I was happy to be 4-1.”
