(WGHP) – With an observed high of 99° Monday, the Triad has officially broken a 50-year-old temperature record for July 15.

Not only did we break the record high temperature, but a high of 99° makes this the hottest temperature the Triad has observed since July 2012.

This comes after Sunday when the high temperature hit 97°, the hottest temperature observed in the Triad since 2017, nearly seven years ago.

While temperatures will remain near the mid-90s through Wednesday, record-breaking temperatures will likely just be confined to Monday afternoon.

Both Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s high temperatures are at least a few degrees away from the record highs that were set in 1915.

As temperatures steadily drop by mid-week, humidity is expected to increase.

The combination of 90-degree heat and high humidity will continue to make it “feel like” the triple digits through Wednesday.

This is ahead of a cold front that will bring some much-needed relief the second half of the week.
