HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) — A High Point family says they’ve had enough of the flooding on their property and want the city to take action.

They say that whenever there’s rain in the forecast, they can almost always count on a big mess.

“When we bought this home last August, we had no idea what we were in for. Every morning, I wake up and see the damage. It’s incredibly stressful,” said Steven Veeck, who lives on Hedrick Avenue with his wife and newborn.

Veeck moved into the home last August. What was once a beautiful grassy yard quickly turned into a nightmare for the Veeck family. Within two months of moving in, they started noticing severe problems.

“There is about two feet of water in our crawl space right now because the recent flood ruined our sump pump,” Veeck said. “I’ve seen needles wash up out of the water, broken bottles and shredded aluminum cans.”

Veeck said flooding had caused significant issues, including breaking his father’s ankle and repeatedly damaging their trashcan, which has hit a neighbor’s car multiple times.

Veeck is a new father and is now hoping the situation won’t take an even greater toll on his loved ones.

“That’s always been our dream: To be able to play outside with our kids. But that’s just not going to happen here. Even in the backyard, once it floods, it’s unusable. It becomes a swamp. It’s like everything we’ve worked for over the past few years to build our family has been for nothing,” he said.

Veeck has contacted the city’s water and sewer department about the exposed city pipeline. They cautioned him not to attempt repairs as it could further damage the road.
