HIGH SPRINGS, Fla. – Willie Mae Hodge, 69, of High Springs, was arrested yesterday and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly attacking another woman with a broken glass bottle.
At about 1:03 p.m. yesterday, a High Springs Police Department Officer responded to a call about an aggravated assault and found Hodge, who matched the description of the suspect, in the area of NW 180th Avenue and Douglas Street.
Because Hodge was near a daycare and was potentially armed, the officer detained her and then spoke to the victim, who reportedly said Hodge had cornered her on a bench and tried to stab her with a broken glass bottle. She said Hodge thought she was sleeping on her bed.
Two witnesses reportedly corroborated the victim’s story. One witness said he helped get Hodge away from the victim by telling her she needed to leave.
Post Miranda, Hodge reportedly declined to speak with the officer.
Hodge has two felony convictions (one violent) and 10 misdemeanor convictions (three violent). She has served one state prison sentence and was released in 2011. She has been arrested twice since 2016 on violent charges, and one sworn complaint was filed against her in 2023 for battery, but all the charges were dropped. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $40,000 and ordered a mental health evaluation.
Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
