Grateful for a community that cares
During long and arduous civil and military careers where the pen was as mighty as the sword, I have seldom been at a loss for words. But I find myself now struggling to find appropriate means to express my profound appreciation to numerous individuals and the Shepherdstown community at large for their many kind gestures and assistance during my recovery from a broken leg last April. This kind of help is critical when, like is the case with most far-flung American families, normal traditional means of support in an emergency are miles away. Friends and neighbors are as vitally important as family members.

Please be advised that Mayor Kenneth Hock, at the recommendation of Dustin Ulrich, Fire Chief and EMS Director, authorized a burn ban in the Borough of Chambersburg, effective Wednesday, June 26, 2024, through Monday, July 22, 2024. The Mayor declared the burn ban because of drier than normal temperatures, with no significant rainfall being forecast. On Monday, July 22, 2024, Town Council may by Resolution extend the burn ban.

He leaves behind his son, Reginald Lee Lynn Simmons (26) of Hedgesville, Emmy Fitzwater-Falcon (26) of Bunker Hill who he considered his daughter and his girlfriend Kristy Ferguson of 11 years, of Hedgesville, along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends he considered family. Shepherdstown celebrates the Fourth of July with their annual Independence Day Parade
SHEPHERDSTOWN — The hot summer sun didn’t stop the crowds who came to watch the Independence Day Parade put together by the Shepherdstown Rotary Club. After the parade, visitors were invited to Morgans Grove Park where the Rotary Club had their annual Independence Day picnic following the parade. Since 2007 the Rotary Club has planned this parade and picnic to bring the community together and create a sense of pride for the town.
Water tower emptied, water issues in Hanover area as crews work to repair water main break
A break in a 12-inch water main in Conewago Township led many Hanover and McSherrystown residents to awake on the Fourth of July with water issues. Hanover Borough Water Department personnel were notified around 5:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 4th, of a break in a major water line that runs along West Elm Avenue in Conewago township, said Hanover Borough Water Department Distribution Supervisor Dale Ault.
One dead, others injured in July Fourth shooting in Carroll County, police say
One person is dead and others are injured in a Thursday evening shooting in Taneytown, police say. At about 10 p.m. Thursday, law enforcement officers and other first responders were called to the area of Bear Run Road at Runnymede Road for a report of a shooting, according to a Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post. Upon arrival, they discovered multiple gunshot victims.
