Homer White’s memory rides on through a new mural!
Kansas City-based artists Mike Trujillo and David Bonilla finished work on a new mural on the side of the American Legion Homer White Post #66 building on Tuesday morning. The finished mural depicts United States Army soldier Homer White, a Hiawatha resident who served as a courier in World War 1 and the namesake of Post #66. White is shown riding on his motorcycle, for that was the machine he used to get across and deliver messages during the war. In the mural, he rides on a dirt road surrounded by tall grass, all in a gray monochrome color palette. Above White are the blue title words and a blue banner that reads, “Homer White Post 66: Serving Veterans Over 100 Years.” The building where this mural can be found is located at 813 Oregon Street.
