(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Highland Park families sue gun maker, two years after seven were killed and dozens more wounded during a Fourth of July Parade.

A wrongful death lawsuit has now been filed against Smith & Wesson, maker of the M&P Tactical Rifle used in the shooting.

The argument in the suit revolves around an alleged violation of an Illinois State consumer protection law, in what attorney’s for participating Highland Park families say is the promotion of the lethal and criminal use of the M&P rifle.

This suit claims that Smith & Wesson has been negligent in the continued marketing and selling of the weapon, particularly to teenagers, even after its use in four of the most deadly mass shootings that have taken place in the U.S. over the past decade.

A similar suit, filed in Connecticut by these same lawyers was recently successful in gaining a settlement from gun maker Remington, for the families of the 2012 Sandy Hook school shooting.
