PTA members say their principal chose to no longer welcome their organization on campus
They're the backbone of so many schools. Parent Teacher Associations, like the one at Porter Elementary in Mesquite, raise money, and volunteer time to better help kids grow. "Miss Goodner, sweetheart of the school. She said books, books for the vending machine. Our dear counselor Miss Ontiveros, she said uniforms for kids that are less fortunate to help the students right here in our community," said PTA President of Porter Elementary, Ava Moss, of the work she and other parents pulled off.
Mesquite Police arrest Christion James in connection with July 9 murder
On July 9, at approximately 11:38 p.m., the Mesquite Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in the 3400 block of N. Town East Blvd. Officers arrived on scene and located an 18-year-old male with a gunshot wound to his chest. An acquaintance of the victim was conducting CPR as officers arrived. Officers assisted in CPR and attempted to provide other life sustaining treatment to the victim until Mesquite Fire arrived on scene. The victim was transported to the hospital where he later died. The deceased was identified as Kavontae Slate of Mesquite, Texas.
Mesquite ISD announces innovation coordinator
Mesquite ISD has appointed Alyssa Brown as innovation coordinator for its technology and innovation department. Brown brings 14 years of educational experience to the role. She began her career as an elementary school teacher at Faith Family Academy and Uplift Education before joining Mesquite ISD.

Hithium is set to bring 141 new jobs to Mesquite after city council unanimously approved economic incentives to attract capital investment and high-paying careers to the area. Hithium Tech USA Inc. proposes to lease and occupy a newly constructed facility, Building 5, at 12905 FM 2932 in Mesquite. The approximately 483,874-square-foot building sits on a 27.494-acre tract in the 20 East Trinity Pointe business park in Kaufman County.
