HENRICO COUNTY, Va. -- Police are searching for the driver of a silver sedan wanted for hitting a mother and her child walking along a busy road in Highland Springs early Friday morning.

Officers were called to the 5700 block of Nine Mile Road for a reported vehicle versus pedestrian crash at 1:15 a.m., according to Henrico Police.

Once on scene officers say they found a woman and a toddler who appeared to have been struck by a vehicle.

"Both victims were transported to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries," officials said.

The vehicle involved in the crash did not stay at the scene.

Investigators said they believe the victim was walking against traffic on the shoulder of eastbound Nine Mile Road when the suspect vehicle struck her.

Police believe they are looking for a silver sedan/coupe in their investigation.
