Annual Parent, Athlete Meeting Set for July 25
This coming Thursday, Pierre will be hosting the annual parent and athlete meeting held at the TF Riggs High School Gym at 6:00. The meeting is for Georgia Morse Middle School and Riggs athletes, and their parents, who plan to participate in an athletic activity for the 2024-2025 school year. During this time, coaches for all fall sports will have short meetings with parents and athletes to discuss the start of the fall athletic season. All athletic paperwork, both Physical & Interim needs to be turned in to the Riggs Athletic Office by this time.

Pierre City Commission To Meet For Brief Agenda
PIERRE, (KCCR) — There is not much for the Pierre City Commission to consider during tonight’s weekly meeting of the group. Beyond the consent calendar, only a single item is on the agenda for Commissioners to consider action on. The consent calendar carries much more but given the nature of the items on the calendar, they are generally approved as one item, however items can be removed for further consideration. The calendar includes meeting minutes from the previous meeting, claim approval, setting a public hearing for August 13th for Pierre Players for a malt beverage and wine and cider license application, three new hires for the golf course, police and wastewater departments and a volunteer firefighter application. The lone action item for the Commission is a change order and pay request from Morris Incorporated for work on the Highway 34 Water Main Loop project. Commissioners will also present any dialogue they may have. The Pierre City Commission meets tonight at the Pierre Municipal Building at 5:30 pm.
Lil’ Govs Fun Run Continues with Two More Runs
Once again tonight, and every Tuesday in July, Pierre Cross Country coach Jim Keyes and the cross country team will be host the Lil’ Govs Summer Cross Country Fun Run. It will happen over the next two weeks, every Tuesday in July starting at 5:30 which will be down at the Griffin Park Tennis courts. The athletes will run on the bike path along the river and then turn and run back through the middle of the park. There will signage for kids to run a half mile, mile or two miles with the kids deciding how far they want to run. The goal of the runs is to grow the sport of cross country and have fun while doing it. It is for kids aged kindergarten through fifth grade.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - Seven nonprofits in the Sioux Falls area received a share of $600,000 in grants on Monday for community-based problem-solving efforts. In partnership with the Bush Foundation, the South Dakota Community Foundation awarded the grants through their Beyond Idea Grant program. SDCF has awarded nearly $3.6 million dollars from the Beyond Idea Grant program since 2022.

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - The Rapid City man accused of killing Edleigha Little back, 40, in November of last year had another appearance in court Monday. Pedro Simental, 44, is charged with one count of first-degree manslaughter. He is accused of hitting Little with a can of beans, causing trauma to her head which resulted in her death on November 10.
