It's RAGBRAI week! The 51st ride kicked off Sunday with more 'normal' crowds
HENDERSON — RAGBRAI has kicked off its 51st year with a more — quote, unquote — normal feeling. Though is anything about this river-to-river ride through the Hawkeye State truly normal? After celebrating a half-century last year with a bang, fewer riders are participating in the 2024 edition of the Register's Annual...
Transgender woman filing suit after state refused Medicaid coverage for reassignment surgery
AMES, Iowa — Sondra Wilson claims that the state denied her Medicaid coverage for her gender reassignment surgery. Wilson doesn’t have a law degree, but is representing herself in this case. She said she reached out to about 50 different law firms across the state and couldn’t afford any of the quotes she was given.
Iowa kids wanted to sell ice cream once on RAGBRAI. Their grandpa urged them to do the week
EMERSON — For Brian Clarke, waterslides are a must-do on RAGBRAI. "You should always do the slip and slides whenever you see one," said the 35-year-old Iowa City cyclist who is riding in his sixth RAGBRAI this year. Clarke, who stood akimbo feet away from the inflatable palm tree waterslide, was drenched, trying to catch his breath from running at top speed and flinging his body on the slide where he was met by the rush of swashing water.
Big Ten primer — Iowa’s greatest football moment
USC goes to Big Ten media days this week in Indianapolis. Let’s get to know our new Big Ten football neighbors. Next up: the Iowa Hawkeyes. Iowa has been a solid and nationally relevant program for most of the past 40 years. Hayden Fry revived the program in the early 1980s after two decades of irrelevance. Kirk Ferentz took the baton from Fry and has kept Iowa relevant the past 25 years, with a BCS bowl win nearly 15 years ago and a few other BCS/New Year’s Six bowl appearances. However, what matters most at Iowa and other Big Ten schools...
Iowa Town Under A Boil Order
(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- A Linn County town is under a boil order this morning. Residents of Alburnett, north of Cedar Rapids are being told to boil their water because of discoloration in one of the city's wells. The city has switched to another well, and is flushing the system...
Iowa's biggest roster weakness in 2024 comes as no surprise
The Iowa Hawkeyes offense has a lot to prove, both to themselves and the nation. Coming into the season, it's a bit unfair that the Hawkeyes are given so much flack for their lack of offensive production in 2023. Iowa wasn't given much grace that it went nearly the entire season without Cade McNamara at quarterback, instead relying on a guy playing at the FCS level in 2024.
Deshaun Lee striving for perfection after starting as a freshman
Freshmen typically don’t start on Phil Parker’s defense, but when veteran players like Cooper DeJean and Jermari Harris missed time, Deshaun Lee filled the void and then some. Lee started six games and the Iowa defense hardly missed a beat. “I was young and not where I want...
Iowa quarterback Cade McNamara's season-ending injury 'gave (him) a new perspective on life'
IOWA CITY, Iowa-- It's been a year of frustration and change for Iowa quarterback Cade McNamara. The former Michigan starter transferred to Iowa hoping to change the narrative surrounding its offense. That didn't happen for a variety of reasons, but for the second straight year, he wasn't healthy. It was a burden that is capable of breaking some people. Not McNamara.
Three Questions that need to be answered during Big Ten Media Days
IOWA CITY, Iowa-- It finally feels like football season is returning. It's a big week in the media world as reporters will flock to Indianapolis to speak with members of each Big Ten school. It's one of the first true glimpse into what is to come during the season. The Hawkeyes will be sending head coach Kirk Ferentz, linebacker Jay Higgins, safety Quinn Schulte and tight end Luke Lachey.
Wrestling at Fargo: Analysis and results for Team Iowa, Hawkeyes, Cyclones and Panthers
After an entire week of wrestling in Fargo, N.D., a whole bunch of Iowans and future Iowans walked away with some hardware. The 2024 Junior and 16U Nationals, better known as just Fargo, saw some of the nation's best square off for the highly desired stop-sign plaque. In total, Team Iowa brought home...
