HILLSBORO, Ill. – The road that was affected by a sinkhole in April of this year has now been partially reopened. Illinois 185, just southeast of Hillsboro, is now a one-lane road.

A 50-foot-wide sinkhole opened next to the road on the weekend of April 10-12. DroneFOX footage showed the massive sinkhole near the entrance to Deer Run Mine.

Body recovered from Mississippi River in St. Louis

“We were notified Friday of the sinkhole situation,” said Kevin Schott, director of the Emergency Management Agency in Montgomery County, in a past interview with FOX 2. “This highway goes between Hillsboro and Coffeen. Hillsboro is the county seat. Graham Correctional Center sits just past where this sinkhole is, and it is a big employer of the county. So yes, this is a very traveled highway.”

Traffic will be controlled using temporary signals. Drivers should be cautious when traveling through this area or continue using alternate routes.
