Cubs claim Cardinals right-handed reliever off waivers
The Cubs have claimed Cardinals right-handed reliever Shawn Armstrong off waivers, ESPN's Jeff Passan reported on Friday. The Cardinals recently designated Armstrong, 33, for assignment. They traded outfielder Dylan Carlson to the Rays in exchange for Armstrong at the previous MLB trade deadline. Now, he'll enter a Cubs bullpen that ranks eighth in bullpen ERA across the league (3.73 ERA).
Mount Sterling Park District has groundbreaking ceremony for pool upgrades
MOUNT STERLING, Ill. — The Mount Sterling Park District recently had a groundbreaking ceremony to begin construction of upgrades to the Joel Oliver Memorial Pool. The Park District received a $400,000 state grant through the Open Space Land Acquisition and Development program, administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. OSLAD grants can provide up to one-half of a project’s funds. The other half is up to the community.

Football Comets Beat Staunton In Opener
The Greenville Comets started the 2024 football season with a home victory Friday night. The Comets defeated Staunton 36-7 in a South Central Conference contest. It was a rough start for the Comets with two turnovers, on an interception and a fumble, in the early minutes of the game.
