PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Hillsboro Hops are sliding into home with the final approval of their new stadium plans.

Though the stadium had already been fully funded since March , the Minor League Baseball team still needed approval from Hillsboro City Council to build it. That approval was granted on Tuesday.

The Hops have played at the Hillsboro Ballpark, formerly Ron Tonkin Field , since their inaugural season in 2013. The current stadium doesn’t meet MiLB’s new facility standards. The opening day for the new stadium is set for 2026.

Hillsboro City Council gave five yes votes, and one abstaining, to approve the plans, which include a 40-year lease agreement between the Hops and the city.

The total $110 million in funding was secured earlier this year from a variety of private and public entities, including some from the City of Hillsboro and Washington County. The stadium will seat 6,000 people for Hops games and up to 7,000 people for other events, such as concerts, officials with the new stadium said.

The Hillsboro Hops account on X celebrated the city council’s vote, saying, “Today marks a momentous day in franchise history,”
