Woman sentenced after pleading to hitting child with car
ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - A woman accused of hitting a child in traffic in Roanoke has been sentenced. Shakayla Andrews was sentenced Wednesday to one year in jail, with seven months suspended, after pleading guilty to reckless driving. That misdemeanor charge was a reduction after she was originally charged with felony hit-and-run with injury.
Teamsters, Coca-Cola Consolidated hit another snag in contract talks
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Teamsters Local 175 reports a roadblock in its negotiations with Coca-Cola Consolidated concerning a new contract for drivers in parts of West Virginia. The union said in a new release that progress has been made in five months of negotiations on several issues but the company recently told the Teamsters it was unwilling to make changes to the health insurance plan which the union said includes “outrageously high deductibles” co-pays for newly-hired workers.

West Virginia – A significant warming trend will sweep across West Virginia starting Friday, bringing hot and dry conditions through the weekend and into early next week. Saturday will see a notable increase in temperatures, reaching highs around 87 degrees in Charleston. Cities like Huntington and Parkersburg will experience similar warmth, with highs nearing 90 degrees. Elkins and Beckley will be slightly cooler, topping out in the mid-80s. Family of West Virginia governor, running for Senate, has deal to avoid Greenbrier hotel foreclosure
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — The family of West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice has reached an agreement with a credit collection company to avoid the foreclosure of their historic hotel as he runs for U.S. Senate, the resort announced Thursday. The Republican governor’s family had been set to appear in court Friday to ask a judge to halt the auction of The Greenbrier resort’s hotel, which had been scheduled for Tuesday. That hearing has been canceled. “It’s taken care of, and we move forward, and The Greenbrier is as whole as it can possibly be,” Justice said at a news briefing. “The Greenbrier is going to be in our family forevermore.” The 710-room hotel has hosted U.S. presidents, royalty and congressional retreats. The resort held a PGA Tour golf tournament from 2010 until 2019 and has welcomed NFL teams for training camp and practices. A once-secret 112,000-square-foot (10,080-square-meter) underground bunker built for Congress at the Greenbrier in case of nuclear attack during the Cold War now hosts tours.
