TAMPA -- Florida's anti-riot law is being used to charge a Hillsborough County woman suspected of stirring up unrest at a roller skating rink last May.

Hillsborough sheriff Chad Chronister says the Astro Skate rink canceled a party for Stephanie Pedroso's daughter because she didn't hire off-duty deputies for security. Pedroso allegedly responded by urging social media followers to tear the place up. Deputies made 26 arrests, and a 16-year-old suffered a cut on his hand after being thrown through a barbershop window.

Chronister says more than 500 people showed up to the May 17th melee at the rink and deputies made 26 arrests. The mob also caused damage and forced nearby businesses to close early.

The law increasing penalties for rioters was passed after the George Floyd protests and was recently upheld by the Florida Supreme Court. Pedroso could face up to five years in prison if convicted. She's also charged with unlawful use of a communications device and felony driving with a suspended license.
