    Hillsborough School Board Meets Monday to Finalize Spending for 2024-25 School Year

    HILLSBOROUGH, NJ - The Board of Education will meet Monday night to finalize its 2024-25 school budget that will increase school taxes by 6.84 percent, while recouping $5.7M in state budget cuts lost over the past five years.

    The board had voted 7-2 at its June meeting to approve the revised budget plan and Schools Supt. Michael Volpe does not anticipate there will be any changes on the part of board members.

    The Board voted to exceed the 2% gross property tax levy cap for the 2024-25 budget at its June meeting and will decide Monday night how the added revenue will be spent. The board approved raising $119,401,383 through property taxes to pay for the $152,462,337 budget.

    Monday night's meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Auten Road School, 281 Auten Road.

    The $5.7 million will maintain staffing, class sizes and restore programs and services that have been cut from te budget over the past five years.

    Volpe is also hopeful that the board will begin serious consideration of full-day kindergarten.

    The Middle School athletic program, which had been on the list of 2024-25 budget cuts, will be saved; Pay to Play for all athletic teams and clubs will be eliminated, and courtesy busing will resume sometime after the start of the new school year in the fall, according to Volpe.
