HILLSDALE COUNTY — Hillsdale County prep golf teams finish up their last events before championship season, meanwhile the Hillsdale varsity girls tennis team concluded its season at the regional finals in Jackson.

The Hornet tennis team traveled to Jackson Lumen Christi, where it took on some of the best teams in the state for regional medals. The No. 4 doubles team of Olivia Kuenzer and Emily Butterbaugh made it all the way to the semifinals of their flight after winning 6-2, 2-6 and 6-3 in their quarterfinal round against Lake Odessa Lakewood. The team would end up losing to the regional title team from Lumen Christi in the semifinals.

Also winning a regional match for the Hornets was Kailyn Frosch, who defeated Mariah Yates of Leslie in a round one battle with 6-1 and 6-0 final scores. The regionals closed out another impressive season for the Hornets and coach Amanda Waidely.

On the golf course, Hillsdale Academy hosted its annual invitational, this time at the Meadows Golf Course belonging to Grand Valley State University. The Meadows will be the site of this year's D4 state finals, and the Colts battled one of their potential state title foes in Everest Collegiate in this invitational.

The Academy defeated both Everest Collegiate and Grand Rapids Christian in the invitational, earning first overall. GRC took second and Collegiate took third. The final overall score for the Colts was 327, a result that bodes well for their state title implications.

Senior Rykert Frisinger took third overall with a 74 final score. Junior Kahle Welden took ninth overall with a 79 final score, his first-ever top 10 finish at an invitational.

Hillsdale High School also played in an invitational. It traveled to Arbor Hills Golf Club to compete in the Hanover-Horton invite. The Hornets took eighth overall. Senior Jaden Hall took 11th individually to lead the team with a final score of 83.

The Jonesville golf team had just one event before heading into championship season. The team played at the Vandercook Lake hosted league jamboree. Jonesville senior Carter Baker took second with an 80 final score. He shot par six of the nine holes.

All three teams now prepare for the start of championship season. Jonesville heads to Ella Sharp Park for its first-ever Cascades Conference Championship. That event takes place Thursday, May 23.

Hillsdale will head to the LCAA championships held at Hantz Golf Club of Tecumseh. Those results will be released following the event. Hillsdale Academy also heads to Ella Sharp Park but for the SCAA championships earlier in the week.

The regional championships for Divisions 3 and 4 take place the following week.
