HILLSDALE — Hillsdale Hospital has welcomed Dr. Heather Mewes to its primary care team, where she will serve as medical director of primary care clinics.

Starting August 26, she will be seeing patients at Hillsdale Health & Wellness and at Reading Health Clinic, while also providing leadership for the team of providers serving in primary care roles.

Mewes recently returned to Hillsdale after practicing in Wyandotte since 2019 at Downriver Medical Associates. She has experience in family medicine, caring for patients of all ages, including newborns. Her particular areas of interest within primary care include women’s health and obesity or weight loss medicine.

“One of the things I love about family medicine is the opportunity to care for individuals, as well as entire families, throughout their lives,” Mewes said. “As a graduate of Reading High School, I am excited to be back in Hillsdale County serving this community in that way.”

Mewes graduated from Hillsdale College before attending medical school at Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine where she completed her Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO). She completed an internship at Hillsdale Hospital before starting her family medicine residency at Garden City Hospital Family Medicine in Garden City, Mich.

“We are excited to bring Dr. Mewes onboard both to see patients and to support our primary care providers through her leadership as a physician,” Rachel Lott, chief communications officer, said. “The loyalty she earns from her patients is a testament to the quality and relational nature of the care she provides.”
