    Jonesville boys cross country takes second at conference finals; Blonde wins league title

    HILLSDALE COUNTY — The Jonesville cross country teams completed their league season at Ella Sharp Park in the Cascades conference championship. The boys team competed for a league title, coming up just short (by 5 points) to Leslie High School. However, sophomore school record holding runner Caleb Blonde brought home an individual conference championship.

    The Hillsdale Daily News athlete of the week honoree clocked in a 16:21 effort to take first overall. Right behind him was teammate Nicholas Fowler in second place with a time of 16:36. Sophomore Collin Fucile was seventh with a time of 17:26. All three athletes earned all-conference honors. Earn second team all-conference honors for the Comet boys team was Freshman Ashton Potwin with a time of 18:16, placing 20th, and senior Zachery Childress running a time of 18:35, good enough for 25th place.

    For the girls team, the Comets took fourth overall out of a 12-team field. Freshman Brynleigh Griffiths continues to lead the team, taking seventh overall individually and earning all-conference honors with a time of 21:06. Sophomore Kiera Knight was also first team all-conference with a time of 21:45 and a 13th place finish.

    Sophomore Kendahl Drake took 18th with a time of 22:38. Sophomore Mia Langhann took 31st with a time of 23:54. Both athletes earned second-team all-conference. Completing the scoring for the Jonesville girls cross country team was sophomore Julia Mandrelle. Mandrelle took 40th overall and had a running time of 25:08.

    The team completes its regular season at the Whitmore Lake Larry Steeb Invite this Saturday, Oct. 19.
