Cambridge's Matt Buckman commits to Hillsdale College for basketball

Cambridge senior Matt Buckman committed to play college basketball at NCAA Division II Hillsdale College on Tuesday.

Buckman, a 6-foot-4 guard/forward, averaged 25.7 points per game last season for the Blue Jays. He added 5.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists while shooting 50 percent from the field, 82 percent from the free throw line and 39 percent from 3-point range.

Buckman, the 2023-24 Capitol South Player of the Year, enters this season having scored a program-record 1,517 points.

Buckman is a three-sport athlete who also quarterbacks the football team and is a multi-year varsity golfer.

Hillsdale College, which is located in Hillsdale, MI, went 18-10 last season after three consecutive 20-win campaigns and plays in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
