Man Found Dead In The Water At Rockaway Beach During A Summer When Drownings Were Common
Officials reported that a man was found dead in the water near the Rockaway Beach boardwalk in Queens early Monday morning. Police discovered the body shortly after midnight. According to the police, the man was spotted floating by bystanders at around 12:30 a.m. They immediately called 911, and first-responders quickly arrived at the scene. Even though CPR was performed, the man was unfortunately pronounced dead after being taken to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital.
Off-duty NYPD officer arrested in Manhattan: police
MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) – An off-duty NYPD officer was arrested early Tuesday morning in Manhattan, according to authorities. Darwin Mejia, 38, was taken into custody around 2:45 a.m. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired. Mejia was suspended without pay, according to authorities.

The Guggenheim Museum has announced the lineup for the fall 2024 Works & Process series, which will include a sneak peak of Jeanine Tesori's newest opera Grounded, ahead of the opera's Met premiere when it opens the 2024-25 season. Met General Manager Peter Gelb will moderate the September 9 discussion with the creative team, and members of the cast will perform selections from the opera, based on the play of the same name by George Brant, who also penned the opera's libretto. Grounded concerns a fighter pilot who is grounded due to an unexpected pregnancy, and subsequently reassigned to piloting lethal drones remotely.

Fire Department of New York (FDNY) Retired Firefighter Danny Noonan has passed away after a battle with leukemia. He was one of nearly 700 FDNY members who responded to a fire at the New York Telephone Company in Manhattan in 1975. Many of them were struck with cancer in the aftermath.

Route 3 in Clifton fully reopened after deadly crash but cleanup continues
The state Department of Transportation worked through Tuesday morning to clean up the aftermath of the explosive truck crash that took place on Monday, causing a complete shutdown of Route 3 and leaving one man dead. According to the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office, a commercial truck was traveling west on Route 3 in Clifton when it crashed into a barrier and caught fire. Man admits abducting N.J. business owner, demanding ransom from his family
One of two men who kidnapped a business owner in New Jersey and drove him across state lines in a U-Haul truck pleaded guilty to federal charges on Monday. Reginald Law, 38, of Queens, New York, pleaded guilty to kidnapping and Hobbs Act robbery, the U.S. Attorney’s Office District of New Jersey said in a news release.
