After a brutal weekend of storms on and around Hilton Head, even more are on the horizon this week.

According to the National Weather Service , there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms between 4 and 5 p.m. and a slight chance before 8 p.m. Monday.

    • On Tuesday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers mainly after 2 p.m. and a 50 percent chance in the evening.
    • The chance for precipitation on Wednesday will grow to 70%, although the NWS predicts mostly sunny skies and a high of 91 degrees.
    • On Thursday and Friday, there is a 70 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 8 a.m., with precipitation also likely in the evening.
    • There is a 50 percent chance that showers and thunderstorms will continue into the weekend.

All of this weather should deliver some moderate rainfall with average totals approaching and inch of precipitation.

Beachgoers should keep an eye out for for rip currents in through Tuesday evening in southeast Georgia and South Carolina, according to the NWS .

Temperatures this week in Hilton Head will range from a high of about 90 degrees to a low of about 78 degrees. The heat index value on Tuesday is expected to reach a high of 109 degrees.

Michael Stroz, a meteorologist from the NWS in Charleston, said that heat, humidity and frequent thunderstorms such as these are to be expected in the peak of July as a result of the sea breeze. Stroz advises to keep an eye out for road closures and to go inside when there is thunder or lightning in the area.
