Housing-related ideas and initiatives on the table at Warren Planning Commission
The Warren Planning Commission continued its work on short-term rentals and the town’s plans to collect data about them at its Monday, July 8, meeting this week. Commissioners said they have been processing public feedback about a draft ordinance that would require Short Term Rental (STR) owners to register with the town, allowing the town to collect data about STR ownership in the coming years. The town is ultimately seeking to understand whether and how the STR market may be impacting the availability of longer-term housing in Warren.
What Burlington’s Mad Pride hopes to achieve
BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - “I don’t think people understand the harm they’re doing when they use words like crazy and nuts to disparage people, and so I’m trying to create a vibration around raising consciousness around who you’re harming through language that yes it’s normalized, but what’s behind it.” said Wilda White, the organizer behind Mad Pride.

LTE: What a beautiful community
Tropical Storm Beryl wreaked havoc on 7/10 – 7/11 to much of Essex County. Living on the E-Town end of the Lincoln Pond Road, I know this all too well. The brook running down Garandah Road jumped its banks, taking out huge swaths of the Lincoln Pond Road, and filled my front yard like a huge, swollen creek. The water blew out my basement windows and poured in with such force that it tipped my hot water heater over, resulting in a ruptured water pipe. By 5 a.m. on 7/11, I had five feet of water in the basement and rising.

Adirondack Garden Club Shares Update on the Essex Quarry Nature Preserve Project
In the roughly one year that the Adirondack Garden Club (AGC) has been tackling invasive plants on a one-acre plot in the Essex Quarry Nature Preserve in the town of Essex, progress has been significant, with the benefits extending well beyond the direct remediation of nuisance species. The project is funded through a three-year grant from the Garden Club of America’s Partners for Plants program. The Essex Quarry Nature Preserve is owned by Champlain Area Trails (CATS), which purchased the property in 2018.

Take the road less traveled. Sure the New York State Thruway will get you from point A to point B quickly but think of all you will miss along the way. The small town charm of Main Street or perhaps the roadside farm stand where you can buy fresh goods from local farmers. Just don't be these guys.
Camara Snaps 14 Year Streak With Devil’s Bowl Win
WEST HAVEN, VT – Poultney, Vt.’s Dave Camara, a Vermont racing icon from the 1990’s and 2000’s began 2024 under the radar, with little talk of what – if any – his racing plans would be, until just before Devil’s Bowl’s 58th season opener, when it was announced Camara would come back to race in West Haven all year.
Vermont men's basketball's roster breakdown for 2024-25 season
The Vermont men's basketball team will be the prohibitive favorite for a fourth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament when the America East coaches' preseason poll is announced this fall. That's an educated guess and an obvious take. But, really, there's no doubting the Catamounts' sustained stranglehold on the conference, having won outright or shared the league's regular-season crown eight years running. And this upcoming winter, they have the returning experience — with four starters back and...
