Thus Love celebrate friendship and owl its benefits with ‘Birthday Song’
Vermont’s musical torch continues to pass from one strong act to another — and now, it’s being carried by Brattleboro’s own Thus Love. The band, who first hit the scene two years ago with their full-length debut Memorial, shared “Birthday Song” on Wednesday (August 7). It’s the first look into their sophomore effort, All Pleasure, due November 1 on Captured Tracks.

Wainwright Mill Dam removal to begin this week in Salisbury
Vermont Business Magazine Removal of the derelict Wainwright Mill Dam (also known as Halnon Pond Dam) on Tributary #10 in Salisbury, VT (south side of Lake Dunmore Road) will begin this week. The dam is in poor condition and no longer functional for its original purposes of powering a sawmill (constructed in 1805) and later as an ice pond. The concrete structure is approximately 56 feet long, 7 feet tall, and 2 feet wide.

Vermont looks to build new women’s prison in Essex, prompting protests
Vermont has identified two potential sites for a new women’s correctional facility — both on state-owned land in the town of Essex. That’s to replace the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility in South Burlington, which was built in the 1970s and has millions of dollars in deferred maintenance. The facility houses about 100 women who have been detained or sentenced.
