EPA Awards UMass Amherst nearly $6.4 Million to Help Shrink the Steel Industry’s Carbon Footprint

Puffers Pond Remains Closed to Swimming
Puffer’s Pond will remain closed to swimming until further notice due to high levels of E. coli bacteria. There are many factors that could be contributing to this ongoing issue and the town is looking into causes and exploring long-term solutions. The town conducts water quality testing weekly with results being posted on Wednesdays at www.amherstma.gov/puffers. The most recent results were posted on Wednesday, July 17 and new results will be posted on Wednesday, July 24.
Dragon Boat Festival to mark 10th year on Connecticut River in Springfield
There will be dragons in the Connecticut River on Saturday, July 21, but there is nothing to worry about and no danger to humans. The dragons are simply “dragon boats,” which will be racing as part of the 10th annual Dragon Boat Festival, scheduled from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at North Riverfront Park on 121 West St. in Springfield.

The Select Board has endorsed a letter urging support for the creation of a seasonal communities designation in the Affordable Homes Act currently under consideration by the Massachusetts state legislature. ALBANY, N.Y. (WRGB) — More than 350 people have been arrested for organized retail theft since Mar. 15, 2024, according to state police. Steven G.
