Charleston, W.Va. (Hinton News) – WV Secretary of State Mac Warner is reminding all eligible citizens that Tuesday, April 23rd, is the last day to register to vote to be eligible to participate in West Virginia's May 14 Primary Elections. Secretary Warner also wants to encourage currently registered voters who may have moved or changed their name since the last election to update their registration to reflect the change. According to Warner, there are three primary ways to register to vote in West Virginia. Carnegie Hall’s new art exhibits now open

WVDNR reminds residents to remove bear attractants from property
BECKLEY, W.Va. (Hinton News) — To prevent human-bear conflicts around the state, the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources is reminding residents to take extra precautions by removing bear attractants from their property. “Deliberately feeding a black bear is illegal in West Virginia, but many people don’t realize that they are unintentionally feeding bears, which can cause serious problems for people, their property and our state animal,” said WVDNR Director Brett McMillion. Common bear attractants include bird feeders, pet food and food scraps and unsecured trash. (HINTON NEWS) – Concord University and Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College (Eastern WVCTC) have entered into a collaborative agreement, in which Concord will provide the Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education program to Eastern WVCTC students. Students will be required to complete the Eastern Associate in Science (A.S.) with a concentration in the Elementary Education classes offered at Concord. Fatal crash in Summers County claims life of Lewisburg man
PENCE SPRINGS W.Va. (Hinton News) - A fatal vehicle crash occurred in the Pence Springs area of Summers County on Tuesday, April 16. According to reports, the vehicle's lone occupant was Estil Burns, 54, of Lewisburg. Individuals who witnessed the accident indicated that excessive speed did not play a part in the crash. Two lives lost after vehicle accident in Daniels
DANIELS W.Va. (Hinton News) - Two individuals lost their lives in a vehicle accident in the Daniels area on Sunday, April 14. The West Virginia State Police released the following statement: "On Sunday, April 14th, 2024, at approximately 9:30 am, Senior Trooper S.A. Wickline responded to a three (3) vehicle collision in the 1800 Block of Ritter Drive in Daniels, West Virginia. Two (2) victims identified as 52 year old Dewey Raynes and his wife 49 year old Melinda Raynes were pronounced deceased on scene. The motorists in the other two (2) vehicles involved did not obtain any life-threatening injuries and refused medical treatment. A West Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction Team responded to assist with the investigation. At this time the investigation remains active and ongoing. From Nightmare to Smooth Sailing: Crews Patch Road in Record Time
HINTON W.Va. (Hinton News) - A hole opened in the road near Triangle One Stop in Hinton on Tuesday, April 9 which caused some traffic delays. Department of Highways crews on the scene stated that it was not a sinkhole and that they were working to fix it as quickly as possible. The area was blocked off for the rest of the day. The next morning, on April 10, crews shut down that part of the road and rerouted traffic while they worked on the area. By late afternoon, the road was reopened and repairs complete. Photos of the hole quickly circulated on social media with many people making memes. A Facebook page that was created for the large sinkhole that opened at the then-current city police station, last year even got in on the action, commenting and posting about the new hole.
