    Summers County ARH Hosts Inclusive Workshop on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity

    HINTON W.Va. (Hinton News) - Summers County ARH (Appalachian Regional Healthcare) is proud to announce its sponsorship of a groundbreaking event to aid in fostering understanding and support for the LGBTQ+ community. The "Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Workshop" is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, June 5, offering morning and evening sessions at the McCreery Hotel in Hinton.

    The workshop, facilitated by Selina Vickers, the Adolescent Health Initiative Coordinator at Southern Educational Services Cooperative, promises to be an enlightening experience for participants. It will cover terminology, biology, policy, and law related to LGBTQ+ individuals. Moreover, attendees will learn practical strategies for creating safe and inclusive spaces for all members of the community .

    This event is open to the public and offers free three-hour training sessions in the morning ( 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) and evening (5 to 8 p.m.). Attendees can choose the session that best fits their schedule. The workshop will provide valuable insights and resources for individuals and organizations seeking to understand better and support LGBTQ+ individuals.

    In addition to the free sessions, an extended workshop offering three hours of non-degree graduate credit approved by Concord University will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a fee of $99. This option requires attendees to participate in the entire in-person workshop and complete additional follow-up assignments. Registration forms for the graduate credit workshop will be available at the event, and the fee can be paid by check on the day of training .

    Pre-registration is required for all attendees. To secure a spot , interested individuals are asked to email their name, email address, phone number, and preferred session to jratcliffe@arh.org by May 29.
