    Summers County man sentenced to prison for gun crime

    ST. ALBANS, WV (WVNS) — A man was sentenced to one year and six months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

    According to court documents, David Nelson Gill, 32, of Hinton was a passenger in a car that was pulled over by police in St. Albans on February 6, 2023. While during a search in the car, Gill admitted to having a loaded Taurus Model PT111 9mm pistol that the police found. The gun was also stolen.

    Police also found a loaded Remington Model 870 12-gauge shotgun on the car’s rear passenger seat floor, where 3 grams of methamphetamine was found on him after he was arrested when he originally got stopped.

    A person with a prior felony is prohibited from having a gun or ammo. Gill knew of this, and his prior felony conviction for grand larceny in Summers County Circuit Court on August 11, 2017.
