Talcott W.Va. (Hinton News) - Officers were called to a residence in Talcott on June 26 at approximately 6 a.m. regarding someone discharging a firearm. While police were en route, a call was received that allegedly identified the individual as Joel Ross Thompson, 51, of Talcott.

According to the criminal complaint, the caller who reported Thompson's identity reportedly stated that he had shot someone. After calling Thompson out of the residence, officers allegedly entered the home looking for gunshot victims and discovered 14 marijuana plants being grown. Additionally, the criminal complaint says some shell casings of multiple calibers were found on the floor along with several firearms in open view. The document, however, does not state that any victims were located.

Officers report that the back door and Thompson's truck were "littered with bullet holes." The criminal complaint also notes that the residence is within 500 feet of three other homes.

Thompson was subsequently arrested and at the time of writing is in Southern Regional Jail with his bail set at $25,500. He is charged with "shooting within 500 feet of a dwelling" and "cultivation of marijuana."
