HINTON, WV (WVNS) – As Tropical Storm Debby continues its course in the Southeastern US, many people are already seeing the effects of this dangerous storm.

Not only will regular citizens be experiencing the effects, but farms and farm animals will be going through them as well.

While our region is not supposed to catch the brunt of this weather, it is important for farmers to know what to do in case of severe weather.

Local farmer Mark Meador explained that it is best to focus on the simple things when preparing his farm for storms.

“Farms have a lot of roofs on buildings. If you have your building roof prepared and have the metal roof screwed down with screws and paint on them, it would be a lot less likely to have damage from storms,” said Meador.

Meador told 59News that it is important to take care of your ditches to prevent them from washing away in the event of a storm.

He also said that stocking up on colostrum can prove handy if you are helping to nurture calves in case of emergency.
