Hoboken has a prominent Italian population, many of whom descended from immigrants who arrived from San Giacomo, a province of Salerno, Italy which was named after St. James the Apostle. A wave of immigrants came to Hoboken from Italy in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

In order to uphold the San Giacomese traditional values and beliefs, the St Ann's Society was established by locals and the society decided to begin their annual celebratory feast in 1910.

Bob, who lived in Hoboken for 10 years but relocated to Nashville, has been photographing the feast since 2001 on both film and digital cameras. “I’m really just shooting family and tradition,” he told TAPinto Hoboken.

He compared two images from the collection, one from 2001 and one from 2022, “they look the same and there’s something beautiful about that I think,” Bob said. “That's why I love going back there - Hoboken will always be the little town I left many years ago, at least for that week in July,” he added.
