DENVER, CO – Join the fascinating discussion about Native women artists in the upcoming Curator Talk series by Denver Art Museum. This event will be held virtually on September 14, from 6 pm to 7 pm.

In this talk, Dakota Hoska, Assistant Curator of Native Arts in Denver Art Museum, will explore the insight, expertise, and captivating works by Native women artists.

Today, Native women artists bring their vision of art with a strong force. Their works often challenge the existing assumptions of the so-called Indigenous art. It ignites questions and conversations about the indigenous itself, while also brings contributions and improving the global conversation regarding the topic.

Native women artists have expanded the definition of art and reconstruct the imperial system that brings the said definition in the first place. Whether the artist follows the discipline of Lakȟóta beadwork, like Dyani White Hawk, or even embracing the freedom of storytelling, like Julie Buffalohead, those women have made a big impact in the art world.

The Museum Friends and students are free of charge to join this talk, the public is required to buy a ticket, and there will be a discount for the members of the museum. Because this is an online event, there will be no refund policy for any ticket purchase at this time.

Curator Talk is a series by Denver Art Museum where it gives the participants an inside look into the curatorial departments in the museum. Each talk will feature different members of the Denver Art Museum curatorial team which cover a wide range of topics.
