Douglas County residents may apply for the COVID-19 Emergency Rental and Utility Assistance, See for Your Eligibility

DOUGLAS COUNTY, CO - Douglas County government provides a program to assist residents of Douglas County who are behind on their rent or utility payments due to COVID-19 financial impacts. There are several qualifications to meet in order to be eligible for assistance.

Funds are available for renters with arrears or future utility payments and rent through 2021. The funds will be delivered directly to the utility providers, landlords, or property managers. Funding will prioritize payments of arrearages prior to funding any future payment.

The assistance is limited to $6000 for a participant household and residents may receive less at the discretion of the providing organization due to eligibility, funding limitation, or availability of funds.

Participants must meet these minimum eligibility requirements:

The participant household must be obligated to pay rent on a residential dwelling. Assistance cannot be used by homeowners to pay mortgage payments, utilities, and/or energy costs;

Participant household must be comprised of Douglas County residents;

Have household gross income at or below 80% of the area median income;

Able to demonstrate being at risk of homelessness or housing instability;

An adult member of the participant must meet one or more of these conditions:

(i) Qualified for unemployment,

(ii) Reduced income due to COVID-19

(iii) Incurred significant cost due to COVID-19, or

(iv) Experienced financial hardship due to COVID-19

For landlords, property managers, or utility providers, you can get resources to share this program with renters who may qualify.

Douglas County offers various types of assistance. Since this program cannot be used to pay for the mortgage, you can visit the Douglas County Housing Partnership if you need mortgage assistance.
