Utah’s plan to retain Sundance Film Festival would split it between 2 cities
SALT LAKE CITY — It appears that Utah’s bid to retain the Sundance Film Festival beyond 2026 will focus on splitting it between its current home and its first one. Few details about Utah’s bid have been made available since the Utah Film Commission announced Utah had filed a request for proposal response to the Sundance Institute in May. The commission confirmed that it submitted a request-for-proposals response — to Sundance’s questions about the bid — on June 20, but it declined to offer many details about what’s in the request.

Hale’s THE NUTTY PROFESSOR brings the laughs
SANDY — As a theatre critic and patron, it’s been interesting to watch Hale Center Theatre in Sandy this year. With their large stages and loyal patrons, it’s fascinating to see them have a season with 4 local, even national premieres with the last coming up this Fall with the US premiere of The Magician’s Elephant. It takes guts to try out new material and challenge audiences and talent with something other than the same safe shows we see time and again. That said, I know I’ve been more forgiving on these shows than many of my friends, and admit they have all been mixed bags. On one hand, this is how most new shows being workshopped before Broadway are. On the other hand, those paying the big Hale prices understandably expect a certain level of finish and quality to what they are seeing. Anyway, this long-winded introduction is to add context when I say the new regional premiere at Hale, The Nutty Professor, is a lot of fun and may win over those who haven’t been happy with the premieres so far this season.
