HOLLAND, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities are reminding residents to check their smoke alarms after a fire broke out at an apartment in Holland.

The Holland Department of Public Safety said that around 11:30 p.m. Monday it received a report of a fire on Stratford Way near the intersection of E. 12th Street. It was reported that the fire started in the living room of the apartment on the second floor.

When firefighters arrived, HDPS said heavy smoke was coming from the windows of the second-floor apartment. Firefighters put out the fire quickly, and all residents were able to get out safely.

There were no reports of injuries. It’s unknown what caused the fire.

“As a reminder, the department would like to remind everyone to check their smoke alarms on a monthly basis. These devices provide early indication of a fire in your home and save lives. Do your part and check yours today,” the department said in a news release.
