$100K GRANT FUELS LIFESAVING EFFORT AT ELGIN HUB
Austin Pets Alive! and its Elgin- based initiative to save pets from overcrowded shelters across Texas recently received a substantial $100,000 grant. The APA! Transport Hub in Elgin, which opened in May, connects rural Texas shelters with rescues across the country that have more space and demand for adoptions. The hub coordinates animal transport and provides health certifications and care for pets during layovers.

Waco police report death of an officer
Waco, Tx (FOX44) – Waco police issued a statement Tuesday afternoon saying that it was with a heavy heart they announced the passing of Officer Jesus “Jesse” Cano. The statement noted that Jesse grew up in Waco and was a graduate of Waco High School. He continued his education at the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History. Following his college years, Jesse joined the Texas National Guard, where he was activated and deployed to Egypt. He served in South Sinai in 2015 and North Sinai in 2018.
