Ohio lawmakers push to require public schools excuse students for religion classes
Ohio public schools would not be able to prevent students from leaving school to attend religious instruction if a bill becomes law. Former Rep. Al Cutrona, R-Canfield, and Rep. Gary Click, R-Vickery, cosponsored House Bill 445 which would require public school districts to excuse students for off-campus religious instruction. Cutrona is now a state senator.
PARTS OF WHITEWATER VALLEY NOW CLASSIFIED AS BEING IN DROUGHT
(Whitewater Valley)--Some parts of the Whitewater Valley are now officially classified as being in a drought. According to a new map released over the weekend, much of Franklin County and the southeastern parts of Preble County are included in a moderate drought. The rest of the Whitewater Valley is classified as being abnormally dry, and that includes Richmond and Wayne County. Richmond has received just under four inches of rain since the first of June, and more than half of that came in one day.

FIREFIGHTER HURT IN FIREWORKS EXPLOSION
(Metamora, IN)--Most communities across the Whitewater Valley held fireworks displays on Saturday night, and most went off without a hitch. There were, however, a couple of incidents. There was an explosion during the display at Metamora. According to the fire department there, one firefighter suffered a non-life-threatening injury. And, in Richmond, firefighters were called to the area of Glen Miller Park where the fireworks originated on the report of a minor grass fire.
FIREFIGHTERS RESPOND TO RICHMOND CASTING
(Richmond, IN)--Firefighters were called to a Richmond manufacturing facility Sunday night. Light smoke was showing at Richmond Casting on Rich Road at 8:30. According to scanner traffic, the bottom had fallen out of one of the furnaces in the plant. Parts of the building filled with smoke and soot. No injuries were reported and the damage was contained to a small area. Richmond Casting is a foundry that does castings for rail, agriculture, and defense.
