TANEY COUNTY, Mo. — The Taney County community is pulling together after many were displaced by heavy rainfall and dangerous flooding this morning.

One Hollister RV park is offering free space for any campers who had to pick up and move this morning.

Those at Lakeshore RV Park say they felt called to help those in need.

“They really are good people. Most of them are older, and they were in trouble,” Jeff Green, one owner of the park said. “They needed help. They didn’t even know where to park.”

Green said calls for help started before dawn.

“Well, we found out about it and ran down there and started telling that we had room. You know, people could come over and stay at our place,” he said. “And at first they weren’t too sure about that because there are other RV parks and they’re like well, are you trying to make money off this? And I said no, no, it’s free. You know, just send them over. We’re not going to charge them, you know, for that because they’re in trouble, you know.”

Green said it’s been a while since the area was hit with rain like this and feels fortunate to be in a position to help others.

Chris Berndt with the Taney County Office of Emergency Management says it was a busy day for first responders.

“So our area, you know, we received a lot, a lot of rain this morning, between five and seven inches and probable even more than that,” Berndt said.

Even with floodwaters receding throughout the area he is reminding people to stay weather aware.

“We’ve had a water rescue in near Cross Timbers, but mostly it was people could not get out due to some creeks that were up there on dry land. They’re just going to have to wait till the creeks go down,” said Berndt.
