Pyramid Contracting, in collaboration with Orangeburg County, broke ground this week on the new Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College’s campus in Holly Hill.

Walton Tobin, president of Orangeburg-Calhoun Tech , highlighted the significance of the new campus, emphasizing its role in expanding educational opportunities for residents in rural Orangeburg, a news release stated.

“Our commitment is to serve the residents of Orangeburg and Calhoun County and the fact that this site is somewhere around 35 minutes away from Orangeburg our main campus,” Tobin said in the release. “It creates access for students who live in this area who otherwise may not get to our main campus.”

Tobin said the facility is needed for the growth in the southern part of the Orangeburg County.

“We’re really just excited to expand our footprint in this part of Orangeburg County with the development that’s happening in the Lowcountry,” he said in the release. “I think it positions the college and this community to thrive.”

The renovation is expected to cost $2.2 million, turning the second floor of the old Holly Hill Middle School into the new 13,000-square-foot satellite campus.

“We are honored to partner once again with Orangeburg County to realize the vision of the new OC Tech Campus in Holly Hill, said Terry Prince, vice president of general construction at Pyramid Contracting’s Charleston office, the general contractor on the project.

OC Tech’s satellite campus in Holly Hill is expected to welcome students in the fall 2025.
