Safe Kids Cherokee County Hosting Car Seat Check

Safe Kids Cherokee County is hosting a car seat check and news conference April 20, in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of a crash involving firefighters Michele and Brooke Ice.

The car seat check will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 20 at the Holly Springs Walmart, located at 2200 Holly Springs Parkway. The news conference is scheduled to begin at 9:45 a.m.

Just weeks before the crash, Brooke’s car seat was inspected by certified technicians. Due to this precaution, Brooke, an infant at the time, emerged unharmed from the crash, which took place on April 1, 1999. During the event, parents can have their car seats or booster seats checked by a nationally certified technician. Car seats and booster seats will be provided for those in need, while supplies last.

Some of the guests expected to speak at the event include the president of Safe Kids Worldwide, along with the technicians who conducted the car seat inspection, and the EMT who promptly responded to the scene of the accident. Additionally, speakers from various organizations, including fire department personnel, a representative from the National Safety Council, and a delegate from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety will address the audience.
