Cherokee County officials have agreed to sell property in Holly Springs to a local construction company for over $2.7 million, and proceeds from the sale are planned to go toward parks projects.

The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted July 16 to approve a $2,714,250 agreement with Woodstock-based Carmichael Development, LLC for the sale of a 20.66-acre parcel on Wellstar Way.

The property is located between the Cherokee County Aquatic Center in Holly Springs and Interstate 575 right-of-way.

The property, which is zoned for light industrial use, was purchased with the land for the aquatic center, which ended up being more than was needed, according to the county.

The county did not have plans for the remaining property and offered it for sale through a real estate broker.

The sale has not been finalized yet; closing is expected to take place prior to Sept. 1.

According to the county, the $2.7 million from the sale of the property will be designated to parks bond projects.

A representative of the company did not respond to a request for comment.
