Man killed in gang-related shooting near Metro station in Leimert Park, LAPD says
A 36-year-old man was shot and killed overnight Friday near the Metro K Line Station in Leimert Park, and the suspect remained at large, authorities said.Officers were called around 12:18 a.m. to 4330 S. Crenshaw Blvd., where they found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds to the head, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesperson said.A Metro spokesman said the parking lot where the victim was found is owned by the city's Department of Transportation.Los Angeles Fire Department personnel were called to the scene and pronounced the victim dead. He was not immediately identified.A vehicle was towed from the scene Saturday morning, but whether it was owned by the victim was unclear.There was no suspect description.Detectives were treating the shooting as a homicide and believe it was gang-related, police said.On Wednesday, a man was stabbed while leaving the Metro B Line station in North Hollywood, the latest in a series of highly publicized violent attacks on or near the Metro system, prompting efforts by the transit agency to bolster safety.City News Service contributed to this report.

GROW, the family-owned farm-fresh produce market and grocery store, came into being two decades ago with a fairy tale by the beach beginning. The story was that in 2003, a little boy named Brendan Fisher, freshly arrived from the Central Valley to Manhattan Beach, quite naturally hoped to become an ocean-going kid. He wanted a boogie board. But he didn’t have the money. So he made a deal with his parents, Barry and Kathy Fisher. Brendan, who was 5 at the time, would raise half the money himself, and his parents would match. Brendan used what resources he had, which included the fact that his dad was in the agricultural export business. He obtained the very best cherries grown in California, then set up a little curbside stand. His cherries sold like gangbusters.
