Those who try to visit the website now are greeted with a pop-up message saying, “Are you looking for episodes of your favorite Cartoon Network shows? Check out what’s available to stream on Max (subscription required).” In a report by Variety , The message emphasizes the advantages of signing up for Max, such as the ability to create a Kids Profile with restrictions and added privacy protections, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for children. Additionally, the message states that cable subscribers can still enjoy their favorite Cartoon Network shows on TV and other apps.

A spokesperson told the outlet that the network’s decision to shut down the website was based on its focus on engaging with audiences where they are most active—through its shows and social media channels. They also confirmed that Cartoon Network will continue broadcasting 11 hours of programming on TV, from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Many people who grew up with Cartoon Network were surprised by the news of the website being shut down, and they fondly remembered playing various games and watching clips from their favorite animated shows.

Cartoon Network launched its website in 1998 and the digital platform became a hub for fans to interact with their favorite characters, watch clips, and play games. Recognizing the potential of the internet, the network launched its online platform to engage with fans and provide additional content

Fans went on social media to reflect on how the website was a part of their childhood:

The closure of cartoonnetwork.com follows Warner Bros. Discovery’s announcement that it will shut down the Boomerang classic cartoon streaming service on September 30. Subscribers to Boomerang will be migrated to Max, along with the service’s content catalog.

This move appears to be part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s broader cost-cutting strategy and an effort to encourage fans to subscribe to Max.
