Nelly Praises Ashanti After Welcoming Baby: “Seeing How Dope Ashanti Is as a Mother Is Awesome”

Ashanti is a first-time mom! The singer announced the exciting news in an Instagram post on Wednesday, revealing that she welcomed her son with Nelly in July. They could not be more thrilled to be parents to their new bundle of joy.

In a statement to E! News, Nelly expressed his joy about their baby’s arrival, saying, “Having kids is always a blessing.” He added, “And seeing how dope Ashanti is as a mother is awesome.”

Ashanti also shared with Entertainment Tonight that their baby is named Kareem Kenkaide “KK” Haynes. “His dad named him with a lot of pride,” the proud mom told the news outlet. “We were going back and forth for a long time about his name, and he was very adamant. He was like, ‘This is what I want; I love this.’”

She continued, “I thought it was so amazing, thoughtful, and sweet because Kenkaide is my dad’s name, and obviously, my dad has only daughters. So Nelly was just like, ‘I think that would be really dope.’ This was all his idea.”

Back in April, the singer confirmed that she was excepting her first child with the rapper, just months rekindling their romance in 2023. At the time, the Grammy Award-winning artist posted a video to her Instagram. Her mom Tina Douglas asked her how much time she needs to get ready for her performance and Ashanti responded, “Uh, I’m gonna need about nine months.”

Ashanti also told Essence, “This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope and anticipation. Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience.”

Now that she has finally entered Motherhood, she has fully embraced it. In a new update she shared, “Funny how life’s plans aren’t…always on time.. lol. I’ve been waiting to be a mom for a long time now but nothing could prepare me for EVERYTHING motherhood brings! This is what postpartum looks like I’m loving these super cozy @fridamom shorts! I’m so proud of my body for giving me my baby, baby, baby, baby, boy.”
